About

Malong Research is a group of world-class research scientists and engineers working to advance state-of-the-art computer vision research and deploy new technologies at scale. The group contributes to the international scientific community by publishing papers, releasing datasets/challenges, giving academic talks, and collaborating with global universities and other corporate research groups, including Google Research and Microsoft Research Asia.

Dr. Weilin Huang


The group is led by Chief Scientist Dr. Weilin Huang. Prior to Malong, he was a post-doctoral scholar and researcher at VGG of the University of Oxford. Dr. Huang published the world’s top performance on numerous vision benchmarks including MIT Place205, MIT Indoor67, and ICDAR13-15.

Dr. Hsiao-Wuen Hon


Malong is proud to have computer scientist and AI luminary Dr. Hsiao-Wuen Hon as a member of its Technical Advisory Board. Dr. Hsiao-Wuen Hon is corporate vice president of Microsoft, chairman of Microsoft’s Asia-Pacific R&D Group, and managing director of Microsoft Research Asia. He drives Microsoft’s strategy for research and development activities in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as collaborations with academia.

Dr. Yi Ma


Malong is also proud to have computer vision luminary Professor Yi Ma as a member of its Technical Advisory Board. Professor Yi Ma, of University of California, Berkeley, is an ACM Fellow, IEEE Fellow and one of the "Top 50 of the World’s Most Influential Authors in Computer Science" ranked by Semantic Scholar and reported by Science Magazine.

  • *19th Jun, 2020 // CVPR – Malong’s CVPR paper on XBM got Best Paper Nomination in CVPR’20
  • * 14th June, 2020 // CVPR – Malong has two papers accepted in CVPR’20, one of them is selected as the oral paper. Malong also supports the conference as a Gold sponsor.
  • * 6th April, 2020 // ICLR – Malong has one paper accepted in ICLR‘20.
  • * 7th Feb, 2020 // AAAI – Malong has three papers accepted in AAAI'20.
  • * 27th Oct, 2019 // ICCV – Malong has four papers accepted in ICCV'19, including an oral paper. Malong is also the gold sponsor at this event.
  • * 13th Oct, 2019 // MICCAI – Malong has an oral paper accepted in MICCAI'19.
  • * 16th Jun, 2019 // CVPR – Published a paper in CVPR'19 in Long Beach, USA, and supported the conference as a Gold sponsor. 
  • * 1st April, 2019 // Google Research – Malong and Google Research collaborated to create the iMaterialist Challenge at CVPR FGVC6 Workshop. Nearly 100 teams from all over the world participated in the competition. This was also the largest product recognition challenge in CVPR history. 
  • * 16th Nov, 2018 // University of Bern - Malong announced a scientific partnership with the University of Bern for medical image analysis.
  • * 9th Nov, 2018 // MIT - Malong gave the keynote, panel talk and technical talk at the Machine Intelligence Conference (MIC) held at the MIT Media Lab in Boston, USA. We also contributed to the conference as a Gold sponsor.
